Carly standing next to the Colesium in Rome Studying abroad at John Cabot University in Rome has been one of the best experiences of my life. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the city’s energy. Every street was alive with history, the air filled with the aromas of Italian cuisine, and the sound of lively conversations in Italian.

My time abroad has expanded my knowledge of global perspectives. As an interpersonal communication student, immersing myself in a non-English-speaking environment forced me to rely on more than words. I became more accustomed to nonverbal cues, which strengthened my ability to connect with others despite the language barrier.

On a personal level, studying abroad pushed me out of my comfort zone in ways I never imagined. When I applied, I didn’t know anyone, and suddenly I found myself living with 8 roommates - strangers who quickly became some of my closest friends. Adjusting to a new way of living was exciting and challenging, but it taught me to embrace uncertainty. Another challenge was navigating daily life without knowing the Italian language. Ordering food at restaurants and chatting with locals at cafes was intimidating at first, but with practice, I became more comfortable.

For any student who is on the fence about studying abroad, whether it is because of financial concerns or fear of the unknown, I can confidently say it's worth every second. It's not just about going to school abroad, even though that is a big part of it; it's about stepping out of your comfort zone and being able to immerse yourself in another culture. I will be coming back with a stronger sense of independence, a global perspective on communication, and memories that will last a lifetime. If you are considering it, take the leap!

Thank you so much for this scholarship; it helped me be able to have these amazing experiences.
