The Asian Studies Center regularly organizes and co-sponsors various Asia-related national, regional, and international conferences. Upcoming conferences include the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs in 2025 and AIFIS-MSU Conference on Indonesian Studies in 2025. Previously, the Center hosted, organized, or sponsored conferences with the American Association of Teachers of Korean (AATK), The International Conference on the Philippines (ICOPHIL).


AIFIS-MSU Conference on Indonesian Studies

The AIFIS-MSU Conference is an annual event hosted by the American Institute for Indonesian Studies (AIFIS) in partnership with the Michigan State University (MSU) Asian Studies Center. Since its inaugural conference in 2021, this event has become a pivotal platform for advancing and celebrating the dynamic field of Indonesian studies. Through its bilingual and virtual format, the conference fosters global academic collaboration by connecting Indonesian scholars with their international counterparts. By facilitating the exchange of knowledge and research, the AIFIS-MSU Conference plays a crucial role in promoting the scholarly understanding of Indonesia while encouraging cross-cultural dialogue and research innovation.


Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA)

The Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA) is a regional conference of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS). The conference provides a forum for scholars and teachers of Asian Studies in the Midwest to gather and exchange knowledge about the history and cultures of Asia. The conference features individual paper presentations, as well as panels and round tables at which faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students present and discuss new research and pedagogical tools
