Virtual Book Talk
Dr. Theara Thun, visiting research fellow at Stanford University's Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center, presents the first systematic-study of how indigenous Cambodian historical traditions interacted with Western colonial-era history-making. Challenging the idea that Western historical models supplanted local thought, Dr. Thun shows how Cambodian scholars synthesized, adapted, and reconfigured precolonial and colonial narratives, shaping new perspectives on national history. His work illuminates the layered intellectual legacies that continue to influence Cambodian and Southeast Asian historiography.
