Japan Council

The Japan Council is composed of faculty and staff at Michigan State University with significant research and/or teaching interests in Japanese Studies.

About

Council members are involved in helping to organize and promote lectures, research opportunities, classes, cultural demonstrations, and other events that support Japanese Studies at MSU. It draws upon a small endowment to help foster research, exchange, and learning about Japan across campus. For more information about upcoming events or the council itself, or to inquire about joining, please contact the chairperson.

Funding

Faculty may request funding support from the Japan Council for allowable activities. With funding from the Japan Council Endowment, the Council seeks to support programs on and off campus at MSU to accomplish the following missions:

  • to support Japanese Studies at MSU by fostering research, exchange, and learning about Japan across campus
  • to acquire and disseminate the most current and accurate information on Japan. This includes but is not limited to information as it relates to the Japanese economy and polity, how these impact on business conditions in Japan, and affect Japan's economic relations with the State of Michigan specifically and the United States more general
  • to highlight events related to Japan and review the most important analyses and opinions on Japan-related issues
