Organized by the MSU Asian Studies Center and the National Consortium for Teaching About Asia (NCTA) at the University of Pittsburgh,the 2025 Summer Seminar on Traditional East Asia is a professional development opportunity for K-12 educators to explore the histories and cultures of China, Japan, and Korea. Participants will engage with MSU faculty, and discover practical, innovative ways to bring this content into their classrooms. This free, in-person seminar features hands-on activities, pedagogy sessions, and engaging discussions. It also includes a range of benefits, such as a $300 stipend, $230 in free teaching materials, a $100 mini-grant (subject to eligibility), the option for 30 SCECH hours (pending approval), and NCTA alumni status for future short courses and study tours. For teachers commuting from more than 50 miles away, we offer limited funding to support accommodations on or near MSU's campus.

Applicants must be a K-12 educator based in Alabama, Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia. This seminar is especially relevant to teachers of history, social studies, geography, world literature, international relations, media art, and Asian languages, but educators of all subject areas are encouraged to apply if East Asia is relevant to their curriculum.
