As part of our Women’s History Month celebrations, the Center for Gender in Global Context is proud to host a virtual screening of the documentary Until and Unless. This film on the lives of trans women in India will be followed by a webinar with key participants from the documentary. We are presenting this event in conjunction with MSU’s Department of Sociology and with Anandam, an activist organization serving the traditional trans hijra koti community in Kolkata India.

The short documentary film explores the impact of Penal Code 377 on the lives of India’s LGBTKH community and the landmark Supreme Court decision to repeal the law on September 6, 2018.

'Kolkata Anandam For Equality and Justice' (KAEJ) in the last three years toured the film throughout India with community activists, co-stars and co-directors, Sintu Bagui and Nitu Giri, Dr. Soma Roy. After the screening we hope to engage the audience in a discussion about the contents of the film and the current state of LGBTKH rights in India.

A description of the film is below and you can watch a trailer of the film here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNXjLvouD2A

MSU students and recent graduates are invited to this Fulbright information session, which will be presented by MSU's Fulbright Program Advisor, Joy Campbell. The most common Fulbright programs to which MSU students and recent graduates apply are administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and funded by the US Department of State.

Participants will learn about the English Teaching Assistant, Open Study, and Research grants offered by IIE. The presenter will give an overview of the programs, discuss eligibility and benefits, then cover the various application requirements.

The session will be a Zoom meeting, as opposed to a webinar, so there will be opportunities for interaction and ample time for Q&A.

For more information, explore the MSU Fulbright website, and contact Joy Campbell with any questions.
