Speakers: Dr. Santosh Raut and Dr. Jon Keune Growing out of his earlier work as an attorney, scholar, statesman, and social activist, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's vision of Buddhism went beyond the conventional boundaries of religion and spirituality. His legacy among Ambedkarite Buddhists since the mass conversions in 1956 has been similarly complex, as Ambedkarites continue to explore what Buddhism might mean and do for them in their personal, social, and political lives. In this public talk, Dr. Santosh Raut (an Ambedkarite Buddhist philosophy professor and community leader) and Dr. Jon Keune (who is researching transnational Buddhism and Ambedkarite migration) will discuss the diverse forms of leadership that have emerged among Ambedkarites over the past 70 years as Ambedkarites strive to improve their communities' living conditions and work for social equality.
