Speaker: Dr. Suzanne K. Scholte is considered one of the world’s leading activists in the North Korean human rights movement. For nearly three decades, she has dedicated her efforts to promoting the freedom, human rights, and dignity of the North Korean people. As President of the Defense Forum Foundation, Scholte has played a vital role in bringing attention to the atrocities committed in North Korea. In 1996, she launched a groundbreaking program to host the first North Korean defectors in the United States, giving them a platform to expose the harsh realities of life under the regime.

This talk discusses Kim's recent draconian measures to further isolate the people of North Korea and how the North Koreans who have escaped are responding via Operation Truth.

This event is made possible by the MSU Council on Korean Studies and the U.S.. Department of Education Title Vi Grant managed by the MSU Asian Studies Center.
