This institute will address how post-industrial cities like Detroit and Shenyang, once manufacturing powerhouses, use or reuse space.

The goal is to use a series of cross-disciplinary lectures, documentaries, tours, and visual conversations to explore space within and across national and historical landscapes: how spaces could be named; how spaces have been forgotten, appropriated, reclaimed, or (re)created.
