Welcome to the 54th Annual Meeting of the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA) Homepage.

The Asian Studies Center at Michigan State University will host the 54th MCAA from September 23-25, 2005, in the Kellogg Conference Center on the MSU campus. "Asia in the Midwest, the Midwest in Asia" will be one of the themes at the 2005 meeting. We invite submissions from all academic disciplines on topics examining Asia and its sub-regions.

Several special events are planned as part of the conference, including:

  • Pipa (four stringed Chinese lute) performance by Gao Hong.
  • A banquet address by the President of AAS, Barbara Watson Andaya, Department of Asian Studies, University of Hawaii.
  • An exhibit of Asian art in the Kresge Art Gallery on the MSU campus.
  • A workshop for K-12 teachers on "Teaching About Asia"

Deadline Extension: Proposals are due July 31, 2005. People presenting papers must be members of MCAA and should be pre-register by August 1, 2005.

We look forward to receiving your panel proposals and seeing you in September.

Michael Lewis, MCAA Program Chair
Director, MSU Asian Studies Center
